What is a CNC Router or Drill ?

CNC Routers and Machine Centres are computer controlled and equipped with a range of units depending on the application. Typically they will have a router head that could be three, four or five axis with the ability to automatically change tools from the multiple tool changer positions. They are likely to have a drilling head with independent drilling spindles for vertical boring, horizontal boring and Grooving. Some machine are equipped with the additional ability to edge band and trim shaped components its has just routed - ideal for office furniture and shopfitting. Depending on the application the working bed of a CNC Router or Machine Centre could be a pod and rail bed with vacuum cups or a flat matrix table often used for nesting components out of a full sheet. The nesting machines with flat able can also feature labour saving items such as automatic loading and Automatic parts removal and bed sweeping.

CNC Drilling machines were developed to focus on furniture component panel drilling thereby leaving the CNC Router to do more advanced work. These have been very beneficial to cabinet production factories by increasing production through zero set up times and with a very compact footprint.

For very high volume and high batch size then through feed drilling machines are a solution and are often integrated within an automated production line.
